Back from New Zeland

the leap

I had a two weeks break in New Zealand. It wasn’t as fun as I had expected. Mostly because I didn’t do much of the outdoor activities. But I did drive for hours which gave me time to think about life. What are my life goals? How should I further improve myself? What did I have the most fun with?

I realized that I enjoy designing. Something that I gave up because of the prospect. It just wasn’t that lucrative being a designer in Singapore. Furthermore, I wasn’t very good at it. Just an interest. I thought about the times I felt excited about designing. Looking and collecting design. It gave me the most fulfillment that I didn’t have when programming. I thought I should go back to my roots in designing. Instead of just programming for the sake of programming, I should build products. Products that people actually can use. Products that I will use it myself.

That will be the start. I used to think about making money all the time. Building companies and make lots of money. But I realized over the years, that I should focus on building things and solving problems. The money might come or it might not. But it will definitely not come if I started off with the thought of making money first.
